About me

Who am I? I am first and foremost a Princess, not by birth, but by adoption into The Royal Family - my crown is waiting for me in Heaven. But while I am still on earth, I am a wife to a loving and caring husband and mother to two beautiful girls. I am also a daughter to fantastic parents and parents-in-law (yes, I do get along wonderfully with my in-laws!!) and a sister to my two brothers and one sister-in-law. I am also an aunt to 3 nephews, a cousin to many and friend to even more!

I love family, and this is where my passion lies – no matter how “crazy” or messy!! There is no such thing as a perfect life or a perfect family; My life and family is by no means perfect, but I am happy and content and I am forever learning and growing and that is what I would love to help others with as well.

Ek praat ook pragtige, suiwer Afrikaans (te danke aan my pa!), English, 'n klein bietjie isiXhosa – genoeg om my dalk uit die moeilikheid te hou; en ek lees baie goed liggaamstaal en tussen die lyne!

Qualifications and field of interest:

Registered Counsellor – (BPsych) Stellenbosch University (2003)

I qualified as a Registered Counsellor and am registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA), after finishing my psychology (BPsych) degree at Stellenbosch University in 2003. I have been working full-time since then in a number of different settings, providing me with more than 17 years of experience in many different fields.

I have particular interest in Solution-focused Brief Therapy, Narrative Therapy, McMasters Family Therapy and Motivational Interviewing – I tend to not focus on one specific field, but rather try and incorporate everything I know in assisting my clients with whatever might be best for them in the moment.

I am also a certified Parent Effectiveness Training (P.E.T.) Instructor, affiliated with Gordon Training International and Parent and Educational Training South Africa. This is the most proven parenting method in the world created by award-winning psychologist and three-time Nobel Peace Prize Nominee, Dr. Thomas Gordon.

Parent Effectiveness Training (P.E.T.) is an intensive 8-week group parenting workshop for parents of children all ages. You will learn practical communication skills that help you become compassionate without being permissive and assertive without resorting to punishment and reward.

What You Will Learn

  • Practical Tools to help you parent with more Confidence.
  • How to Listen Better so that you create Strong Relationships with your children and keep an open line of communication into their teen years.
  • How to Be Clear about Behaviors of your children that are not okay with you so that you as a Parent Get Your Needs met.
  • How to help your children develop into Strong, Self-Sufficient, Responsible Adults.
  • How to Problem Solve in a much better way without resorting to power to Reduce Stress & Resentment within your family.

I will always sign a contract with my clients before we start, so that they are fully informed of the process and are able to give consent before starting the sessions.

Mutual Respect

With respect for each other and our differences, we can go a long way.

Non-judgmental attitude

I believe that we are all uniquely made, each one of us with a specific purpose. But what I believe, is not necessarily what you believe. What I do expect in my counselling session, is that we will not judge each other, just because we think or believe differently. Every opinion matters and every person, big or small, deserves an opportunity to be heard, without being judged.

Individual responsibility

It is not my responsibility to save you, or to change your circumstances… It is my responsibility to guide you and to give you options and tools to use in order to “save yourself”. You will remain the main person responsible for your own change.

I was fortunate to be invited by SABC 3's Expresso Show, to talk about some Parenting issues - please have a look!

Booking of appointments

Sessions are booked in advance. Unfortunately I cannot see unscheduled walk-ins or emergency appointments.

I prefer that appointments be scheduled via email or whatsapp, as I am often unable to answer my phone due to being in consultations. I also provide online counselling via the Zoom application - please contact me if you are unable to attend consultations at my practice address and are in need of online counselling.

My office hours are from 08h00-12h00 on weekdays and on certain Saturdays also from 08h00-12h00.
I have some limited availability during School Holidays.

Unfortunately no home visits, but I would be available for possible individual counselling and/or group trauma debriefings or life skills training at companies, on-site, if arranged ahead of time – additional travelling costs per kilometer will apply. Please contact me for a formal quotation.

Sessions will normally be between 1 hour and 90 minutes, depending on availability and need - fees will be charged according to the length of each session. I am registered with The Board of Healthcare Funders of South Africa (BHF p/n 0724718 ) and recognized by most medical aids. I do, however, request that clients pay cash (Credit/Debit card facilities are available) before or directly after each session. I will provide clients with a statement in order for them to claim back the money from their medical aids themselves.

As from January 2021, fees will be R600 for a 1 hour session and R850 for a 90 minutes session. Appointments missed without prior notice or cancelled less than 24 hours before the time of the scheduled appointment may be charged at full rate, should I be unable to fill the time-slot with another client. Please just note that medical aids generally refuse to pay for missed appointments and that you might have to pay for those sessions yourself, even though you have medical aid funds available.
